Jackie has traveled extensively throughout the world. Yet, she will tell you in a heartbeat that there is no place like home. Jackie has lived in the Detroit metropolitan area all of her life. She is one of Detroit’s biggest fans and a staunch supporter of the city. Jackie was raised in poverty and empathizes with those who struggle with obtaining the basic necessities for living. For several years, Jackie operated a soup kitchen in a Detroit community center. The soup kitchen fed thousands of homeless individuals as well as low income families. She received resolutions and other awards from the State of Michigan, Wayne County, and City of Detroit for her efforts.
In addition to feeding the homeless, Jackie organizes an annual luncheon for Detroit senior citizens in retirement homes. Time is spent fellowshipping with the seniors as well as serving them a nutritious and delicious home cooked meal. It is a labor of love that Jackie looks forward to hosting every year.
Another cause dear to Jackie’s heart is Angel Tree for Christmas. Over the years, Jackie and her team have spent thousands of dollars to purchase clothing and toys for children of the incarcerated. Watching the big grins on the face of the children as they unwrap their gifts has given Jackie many cherished memories year after year.
Jackie’s service to the city of Detroit through her community volunteerism will always be a part of who she is. She feels fortunate to be able to pay it forward by extending acts of kindness to those in need.
